July 2007 PUBLIX SUPER MARKETS CHARITIES AWARD $4,000 GRANT TO THE COUNCIL ON AGING OF MARTIN COUNTY The Council on Aging of Martin County is pleased to announce a grant award of $4,000 from Publix Super Markets Charities, Inc. Publix has donated more than $35,000 to the Council on Aging since 1995. The donated monies will help to underwrite over 20 services of the Council, including Meals on Wheels, transportation via Community Coach and senior day care. Grants such as this one help the Council to supplement federal and state funding to assist needy seniors that fall outside the realm of government-funded programs. The not-for-profit Council on Aging of Martin County provides a comprehensive array of services that help seniors live independently in their own homes, including: geriatric care management, adult day care, Meals on Wheels, senior dining centers, companion services, nutrition education and much more. A year-round slate of activities and educational opportunities is available at the Log Cabin Senior Center in Jensen Beach. The Council is the longest standing organization in the county dedicated to serving our senior population. The organization currently serves 4,110 elders annually, or 34 percent of Martin County’s senior citizens. The Council also operates Community Coach, which provides 150,000 trips annually for 11,000 Martin County seniors, transportation disadvantaged residents and riders of all ages. For more information on all available services for seniors, or to learn how you can donate to the Council, call 772-283-7800.
